Welcome to the second issue of my bamboo newsletter.
I'm not sure what part of the world any of my subscribers are from, or what season it is, but here in the UK it is winter. And in West Wales where I am it is very wet! Not such good weather for gardening... except clearing away leaves and battling with mud. Wherever you are, it's coming up to Christmas, so I decided to focus this newsletter on...
If you have had a good look round my website you will know by now that bamboo isn't just about gardening and plants. Bamboo is such a versatile plant that it can be turned into just about anything! Well, almost anything.
I'm not too organised at this time of year and always end up doing last minute shopping in a panic. This year I am trying to make sure that doesn't happen but as we are already into December there isn't much chance of that, hopefully I'm in time to do some gift ordering online.
So... just in case you are like me and haven't finished your Christmas shopping... how about I give you some ideas for bamboo Christmas gifts?
Bamboo wind chimes are great value for money and just about everyone likes them as they have a really nice tone.
In Chinese tradition, the bamboo wind chime symbolizes peace, harmony and prosperity. Presenting one as a gift to a special person is to wish them happiness and good health. The larger ones have a deeper tone and make a much more impressive gift.

A bamboo water fountain creates a unique sound in comparison to other types of fountains and similar garden features. Outdoor fountains are excellent in the garden but for an xmas gift you can't beat an indoor water fountain.
They are very good value for money and make unusual gifts if you're looking for something a bit different.

If you know someone who really likes unusual plants you could consider giving them an ornamental bamboo for Christmas so they can plant it out in the spring, or keep it in a container.
See the following pages on my site for some tips on species and care. Clumping bamboo species would be a good choice here as they remain in clumps and don't spread. Unless of course, you know someone who would love a bamboo wind break or privacy screen, in which case a running bamboo species would be better.
For any practical person, books are always well received. Books about bamboo for gardeners, builders, diy enthusiasts, people interested in crafts. How to build with bamboo, Building bamboo fences, Bamboo for Gardens, lots to choose from, take a look at...
... to view a wide variety, make sure you go beyond the first page of listed books or do a search for a specific bamboo topic rather that just stick with the first selection provided.
